Museums in Boston and around the state and nation will throw open their doors to the public for free Saturday, but you have to register for tickets first.

The event, Smithsonian Magazine’s annual “Museum Day Live!”, provides free admission to over 1,000 museums nationwide. There are 57 participating in Massachusetts, including 13 in Boston.

Choose to stay downtown or venture out to the North Shore to visit venues such as the Salem Witch Museum or head west for the Spellman Museum of Stamps and Postal History in Weston. You can see the full list of participating museums here: http://bit.ly/1OyBq42

To take part, register online for up to two tickets to the museum you want to visit. Either print out the tickets you receive or save a digital picture on your phone for use when you enter the venue.
