President Obama nominates Rachel Held Evans, others as faith advisers

The White House has announced plans to add a popular evangelical writer, a Ferguson, Mo., activist and a Methodist megachurch pastor to President Obama’s list of faith-based advisers. They are:

Rachel Held Evans

Known for her blog and books such as “A Year of Biblical Womanhood,” she has written “Searching for Sunday: Loving, Leaving, and Finding the Church.”

The Rev. Traci Blackmon

The acting executive minister of the United Church of Christ’s Justice and Witness Ministries, Blackmon has been the pastor of Christ the King United Church of Christ in Florissant, Mo., since 2009.

The Rev. Adam Hamilton

The author of 23 books (including “Making Sense of the Bible”), Hamilton is the founding pastor of the United Methodist Church of the Resurrection in Leawood, Kansas, the largest Methodist congregation in the U.S.

Obama said of the nominees on Friday (Jan. 29): “I am pleased to announce that these experienced and committed individuals have decided to serve our country. I look forward to working with them.”
