BOSTON (AP) — The Boston Marathon winner is donating her trophy to one of the sport’s pioneers.

Ethiopia’s Atsede Baysa says she was inspired by the story of Bobbi Gibb. Gibb sneaked onto the course in 1966 and became the first woman to finish the race. The Boston Athletic Association honored her this year on the 50th anniversary of that run.

Gibb thanked her and said she would only keep the trophy for the year.

Gibb served as grand marshal for the race this year.

Fifty years after her run, more than 14,000 women were in the field of nearly 27,500 runners.

Baysa finished the race in 2 hours, 29 minutes and 19 seconds – 44 seconds ahead of fellow Ethiopian Tirfi Tsegaye.
