President-elect Donald Trump is considering Hillsdale College’s Larry Arnn to head up the Department of Education in his new administration.

Arnn is the president of Hillsdale College, a small conservative liberal arts school in Michigan known for declining all federal funds. The Trump transition team has added him to the list of potential picks for U.S. Secretary of Education, the school’s newspaper reported Thursday. A source close to Arnn also confirmed the news with The Daily Caller News Foundation.

Hillsdale is ranked in the top 100 liberal arts colleges by U.S. News and World Reports, and has built a reputation on its curriculum emphasizing Judeo-Christian teachings and the U.S. Constitution. The Obama administration slighted the school in 2015 when it released a “College Scorecard” that did not include Hillsdale, absurdly implying it’s not a “real” college.

Arnn sharply criticized the analysis and the Department of Education. “Hillsdale College, 1844,” he said at the time. “United States Department of Education, 1979. The latter has never been very good at history or even current affairs.”

The department later called the omission of Hillsdale from the list a mistake.

Republican Sen. Jeff Sessions of Alabama, a Trump favorite said to have his pick of positions in the administration, likes the idea of Arnn as education secretary, a congressional source told Hillsdale’s student paper. Arnn said he would cautiously consider the post.

“Some people of influence would like for me to do it,” he told The Collegian. “They are not the people who would decide. If those people decide to ask me, then I will make a decision. I will make no decision that I think would harm the college or result in my permanent separation from it.”
