BOSTON — Former Vice President Joe Biden isn’t ruling out a run for president in 2020 and is doing plenty to keep his public profile up, including media interviews and a new daily podcast featuring news articles that Biden finds “intriguing.”

“I think he’d make a wonderful president. I think he’d beat Donald Trump,” Boston Mayor Martin Walsh told Boston Herald Radio on Wednesday.

Walsh added, “I met with him not too long ago. And I sat with him and we talked briefly about it. He didn’t indicate to me that he was thinking about running for president, but he didn’t say he wasn’t.”

When hosts Jaclyn Cashman and Hillary Chabot asked Walsh if he would support Biden, Walsh interjected, “Obviously, I’m not going to jump too quickly here.”

When they raised the possibility of U.S. Senator Elizabeth Warren jumping into the race, Walsh named two mayors as possible 2020 Democratic presidential candidates.

“[Eric] Garcetti’s thinking about doing it. I’m hearing his name in LA. I’m hearing Mitch Landrieu’s name in New Orleans. I’m hearing a lot of names. Those are all people I know,” the mayor said.

Warren is up for re-election in 2018, when Massachusetts voters will also decide races for nine Congressional seats, governor, lieutenant governor, attorney general, auditor, treasurer, and secretary of state, as well as state legislative races.

According to Walsh, the 2020 presidential campaign will likely commence right after voters cast their ballots in 2018.

“I do think the presidential election’s going to start earlier,” Walsh said. “It usually starts a year and a half beforehand. I think after this cycle it’s going to start next year.”

Walsh has been one of the most vocal local critics of Trump, who emerged victorious from a big field of Republican presidential candidates in 2016 and went on to stun Hillary Clinton in the November election, forcing Democrats to regroup.
