FRAMINGHAM — Federal investigators are launching a probe to determine who is behind a semester-long distribution of hate-filled fliers at Framingham State University which are apparently targeting minority students.

The university recently announced it turned over one of the fliers to the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

The most recent incident, according to school officials, occurred last week. In a campus-wide email message sent Friday, President F. Javier Cevallos stated that administrators “received a report of racism on campus overnight targeting one of our students of color in Towers Hall who had a note slipped under his door with a racist slur on it.

“This student had previously been targeted with a note under his door earlier this semester,” Cevallos added. “Police are interviewing residents in the hall as part of their investigation.”

Cevallos’s email was posted to a recently launched page on the Framingham State University website that is dedicated to providing the campus with a timeline and updates regarding racist action that university officials say is occurring at the school.

The timeline dates back to October 13, and lists four separate incidents — including the most recent one — but does not provide details.

Later that month, students led a walk-out to protest the university’s handling of the alleged incidents:

According to Fox25, a university spokesman confirmed that the school is offering a $1,000 reward to anyone who can provide information that leads to identifying the perpetrator.
