Judge Approves Boston Herald Sale To Colorado Newspaper Company

Digital First Media, which owns The Denver Post and The Lowell Sun, got approval from a bankruptcy judge Friday to buy The Boston Herald for $11.9 million.

The judge gave current owner Patrick J. Purcell and Digital First Media until March 28 to complete the sale, according to Boston Business Journal.

The new owner is expected to reduce the payroll from 240 employees, where the staff was in December 2017, to 175.

Digital First Media surprised presumptive Herald buyer Gatehouse Media with the winning bid during a five-hour auction on Tuesday.
