Maine House: Bring on Marijuana

April 11, 2018

The Maine House of Representatives has approved a bill that would legalize recreational marijuana.

The 112-34 margin suggests the bill could survive a veto from Governor Paul LePage, a Republican, who opposes legal marijuana.

If the Maine Senate approves the bill and then both houses vote to override LePage’s expected veto, licenses to marijuana-selling businesses could be issued as early as the spring of 2019, according to The Portland Press Herald.

Some marijuana supporters don’t like the bill, because it doesn’t allow users to buy and smoke at social clubs and because it limits the number of home-grown marijuana plants to three per household.
