June 25, 2018

The company that owns the company that owns four daily newspapers and four weekly newspapers north of Boston is looking to sell them, according to the Lawrence Eagle-Tribune, one of the newspapers involved.

CNHI, headquartered in Montgomery, Alabama, currently owns North of Boston Media Group, which operates the Eagle-Tribune, the Salem News, the Gloucester Daily Times, and the Daily News of Newburyport, all daily newspapers. The company also operates four weeklies:  The Andover Townsman and The Haverhill Gazette in Massachusetts; and The Derry News in New Hampshire and The Carriage Towne News, a regional weekly that covers several towns in southeastern New Hampshire.

About nine months ago Raycom Media Inc. bought CNHI. Now, Gray Television Group, of Atlanta, is buying Raycom Media Inc., according to the Eagle-Tribune. The story implies that that acquisition is triggering the sale of newspapers in 22 states, including the ones in Massachusetts and New Hampshire.
