Vermont Governor A ‘Sellout Bastard,’ Says Gun Advocate

May 16, 2018

Vermont Governor Phil Scott is getting an earful from gun-rights advocates wherever he goes, to the point where he carries copies of a fact sheet about gun-control bills he recently signed and an affidavit describing a near-miss school shooting in the town of Fair Haven.

Scott, a Republican, told gun-rights supporters he wouldn’t sign any gun-control laws when he was campaigning in 2016. He acknowledges that has changed his position in the wake of the school shooting in Parkland, Florida and the subsequent near-miss in Vermont.

Gun owners aren’t interested in his explanations.

“The sellout bastard. I will never forgive him,” one former supporter who kept more than 150 Scott signs in his yard in 2016 told Seven Days.

Some are trying to organize opposition to defeat Scott in his re-election bid in 2018 and to defeat pro-gun-control legislators. Some commentators are questioning whether they can make it happen.
