Common Core Robs Kids of Creativity, Professor Says

Common Core is crushing creativity by teaching students to regurgitate words and phrases in English language arts rather than restate ideas in their own voice or come up with new ideas, argues Fordham University political science professor Nicholas Tampio in a new video.

“Children whose families can afford elite private schools are being taught to think for themselves — while at the same time students who are in public school are being taught how to follow instructions. They’re being taught to obey,” Tampio says in the video.

He calls Common Core “anti-democratic pedagogy.”

Tampio is the author of a newly published book called Common Core:  National Education Standards and the Threat To Democracy.
