STATE HOUSE — Gov. Charlie Baker wagered a box with Indiana Gov. Mike Pence when the New England Patriots played the Indianapolis Colts in the AFC championship game in January, and again with Gov. Jay Inslee when the Patriots squared off against the Seattle Seahawks in Super Bowl XLIX.

And when Boston University and the University of North Dakota were set to drop the puck in the Frozen Four national semi-final, he bet North Dakota Gov. Jack Dalrymple another box that the Terriers would advance.

Baker’s go-to sports betting currency with rival governors has been a box of Boston Cream Pie cupcakes from the Koffee Kup Bakery in Springfield, a sweet that moved one step closer on Monday to becoming the official cupcake of Massachusetts.

After closing its formal lawmaking period for 2015 last week, the House on Monday gave initial approval to Rep. Angelo Puppolo’s bill (H 3366) to make the Boston Crème Pie cupcake the official cupcake of the Commonwealth. The bill was advanced to the Committee on Bills in Third Reading.

Boston crème pies are already the official dessert of Massachusetts, and the Boston crème pie donut is the official donut of the state.
