BOSTON – Mayor Marty Walsh stepped into City Hall’s front “yard” Wednesday to welcome the Big Apple Circus back to town as workers prepared to raise the big top that will house performances from March 24 through May 8.

The 63-foot high tent, which is 440 feet around at its base, can accommodate an audience of up to 1,700 and was set up by a crew of 35. But Walsh gave them a hand, pushing a button to raise the canvas, along with Michael Leclair, the tent master.

The box office opens Thursday, but the first show is already sold out.
