Minimum wage hike to $15 passes in California, New York

LOS ANGELES (AP) — California and New York acted Monday to gradually push their statewide minimum wages to $15 an hour — the highest in the nation — as Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders again seized on wage disparity and the plight of the working poor in their fight for the Democratic presidential nomination.

Clinton joined New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo at a raucous rally in Manhattan as he signed the law that will gradually boost that state's pay rate. The former first lady predicted the movement will "sweep our country."

BOSTON – An effort to modernize and improve permit processing in City Hall has already cut some key times by more than half and has paved the way for more improvement, according to a study released Monday.

The research shows that processing a "long form" building permit fell to 22 days from an average of 42 days, according to the report from the Rappaport Institute for Greater Boston at Harvard University's Kennedy School. Planning and zoning reviews fell to 12 days from an average of 32.
