BOSTON (AP) — The USS Constitution is marking Pearl Harbor Day with a ceremony involving another Navy ship named for a Pearl Harbor hero.
Wednesday’s commemorative service will feature a wreath-laying ceremony on the World War II-era destroyer USS Cassin Young.
USS Cassin Young is named for the U.S. Navy commander who was awarded the Medal of Honor for his actions during the 1941 Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor in Hawaii. Although built in California, it’s typical of the Fletcher-class destroyers constructed in Boston’s Charlestown Navy Yard.
The ship was decommissioned in 1960 and has been at Boston National Historical Park in the Charlestown Navy Yard since 1978.
Wednesday’s program will include a rifle salute and rendition of “Taps” by the Leatherneck Honors Society, and a gun salute from the USS Constitution.
