A Massachusetts legislative committee has scheduled a hearing for the proposed ROE Act abortion expansion bill.
The hearing of the Joint Committee on the Judiciary is scheduled for 1 p.m. Monday, June 17 in Gardner Auditorium at the Massachusetts State House in Boston.
The committee has reserved four hours for the hearing, reflecting the widespread interest in the bill, which would remove most remaining restrictions on abortions after 24 weeks and remove existing protections in state law for babies born after an attempted abortion.
Massachusetts Senate Bill 1209, as the ROE Act bill is known, would also remove the parental consent requirement for girls 17 and younger and remove a requirement in state law that abortions after 24 weeks be performed in a hospital. It would also expand state funding of abortions for women not poor enough to qualify for Medicaid whose private health insurance plans don’t cover abortion.
Gardner Auditorium is on the Bowdoin Street side of the State House, but the nearest general access point is the General Hooker entrance on Beacon Street.
