An Easthampton crisis pregnancy center was vandalized by abortion supporters in the early morning Thursday.

“If abortions aren’t safe, neither are you,” reads a message spray painted in black on the sidewalk outside Bethlehem House crisis pregnancy center at 33 Knipfer Avenue.

NewBostonPost sought comment from the Easthampton police chief, Robert Alberti.

“We can confirm that the vandalism you referenced was reported to our Department earlier today, and there is an active ongoing investigation into the incident. Because this is currently under investigation, we don’t have any additional details for release at this time,” Alberti said in an email message to NewBostonPost.

Based on pictures sent to NewBostonPost by Michael King, director of community alliances at Massachusetts Family Institute, the vandalism at Bethlehem House includes spraypainted messages and symbols on the cement outside the building, benches, and signs. There is also red paint splattered on the side of the house.

The benches were spray painted with the name of “Jane’s Revenge,” a pro-abortion group. The group’s name has been left at many of the crisis pregnancy centers attacked or vandalized in recent months. Facebook branded the group as a terrorist organization in June.

A spokesman for Bethelem House could not immediately be reached for comment.

Bethlehem House Inc. Pregnancy Care Center in Easthampton was founded in 2006.

The act of vandalism occurs in the wake of attempts by Easthampton city officials to pass an ordinance to ban what it calls “deceptive advertising” by crisis pregnancy centers. The motion is being reviewed by a committee.

The proposed ordinance resembles similar measures passed by Somerville and considered by Amherst, Worcester, and Cambridge. Bethlehem House is the third Massachusetts crisis pregnancy center targeted by abortion supporters. Two in Worcester were vandalized in July.
