ACLU of Massachusetts Calls Putative ICE Raids ‘Inhumane and Xenophobic’
July 12, 2019
Reportedly planned raids by federal Immigration and Customs Enforcement on illegal immigrants this coming weekend are “inhumane and xenophobic,” the American Civil Liberties Union of Massachusetts said.
The raids are reportedly supposed to take place Sunday, July 14 in at least 10 major cities. Boston isn’t on the list of purported raids.
Carol Rose, executive director of the American Civil Liberties Union of Massachusetts, pledged “The full power of the ACLU” to fight Trump administration efforts to deport immigrants in the country illegally.
“The Trump administration and ICE are intentionally creating fear and chaos by announcing plans to target families for deportation. Our communities shouldn’t have to live in fear that parents won’t come home from work, that kids won’t return from school, or that a knock at the door could rip a family apart. We cannot — and will not — sit idly by while the Trump administration threatens another inhumane and xenophobic attack on asylum seekers and immigrants,” Rose said in a written statement Friday, July 12.
