Attleboro Mayor Proposes Term Limits

January 30, 2019

Attleboro Mayor Paul Heroux is proposing to alter the city charter to limit mayors of the city to four two-year terms.

Heroux, a Democrat, campaigned on term limits when he was elected in 2017. He has personally pledged not to serve more than three two-year terms.

Term limits are needed to “prevent entrenchment,” Heroux said in an email message to The Sun Chronicle.

Attleboro is a city of about 43,000 on the Rhode Island border, about 11 miles northeast of Providence.

Adding term limits would require a change in the city charter.
