Bentley Women’s Basketball Coach To Be Inducted Into Basketball Hall of Fame
April 6, 2020
Over the weekend, the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame announced its 2020 class, and it featured one Massachusetts college basketball coach.
The class features longtime NBA stars Tim Duncan, former Boston Celtic Kevin Garnett, and Kobe Bryant, who died in a helicopter crash this past winter.
It also features three women. In addition to former WNBA player Tamika Catchings and Baylor women’s basketball coach Kim Mulkey, Bentley University women’s basketball (NCAA Division II) head coach Barbara Stevens got the nod, according to Bentley’s web site.
Stevens is one of six women’s college basketball coaches to win 1,000 games. In her career, she is 1,058-291; that includes a 901-200 record as the Bentley women’s coach, a post she has held since 1986. She has also coached at Clark University (NCAA Division III) and the University of Massachusetts Amherst (NCAA Division I).
This year, induction weekend is set to take place in Springfield, Massachusetts from Friday, August 28 to Sunday, August 30.
