Bernie Sanders Calls For Publicly-Funded Presidential Campaigns

November 30, 2023

U.S. Senator. Bernie Sanders (I-Vermont) wants publicly-funded presidential campaigns.

Sanders made that clear when responding to the news that Americans for Prosperity, a Koch-backed political advocacy group, endorsed former United Nations ambassador Nikki Haley in the 2024 Republican presidential primary.

“Billionaires buying candidates and elections is what oligarchy is all about,” Sanders posted on X, formerly known as Twitter. “It’s not just Nikki Haley or Republicans, it’s both parties. We need real campaign finance reform and public funding of elections.”

Sanders ran against two billionaires in the 2020 Democratic presidential primary, neither of whom got the nomination:  former New York City mayor Michael Bloomberg, and green investor Tom Steyer.
