Bernie Sanders Pushing For Medicare-For-All

May 18, 2023

U.S. Senator Bernie Sanders (I-Vermont) is once again pushing for Medicare-for-All.

The self-described democratic socialist plans to introduce a bill called the Medicare for All Act of 2023 later this week.

“It is long overdue for us to end the international embarrassment of the United States being the only major country on earth that does not guarantee health care to all of its people,” Sanders said Tuesday, May 16, according to CNBC. “Now is the time for a Medicare for All single-payer program.”

The bill is highly unlikely to become law because the U.S. House of Representatives is controlled by Republicans, who oppose it. President Joe Biden, a Democrat, also opposes Medicare-for-All, and a majority of U.S. senators oppose it, as well.
