Biden Picks Gina Raimondo For His Cabinet

January 9, 2021

Rhode Island may soon have a new governor thanks to president-elect Joe Biden.

On Thursday, Biden nominated the state’s Democratic governor, Gina Raimondo, to his Cabinet as the commerce secretary.

If the soon-to-be-Democrat-controlled U.S. Senate confirms Raimondo, then Lieutenant Governor Daniel McKee will take over as acting governor for the remaining two years of her term.

“My job is to always be prepared in that unlikely scenario,” McKee said, according to The Associated Press. “I am prepared, and I’ve been working for the last six years to make sure that I am prepared.”

McKee appears to he a likely candidate to run for a four-year term as governor in 2022.
