October 14, 2018

Former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg made an appearance at an anti-gun event in New Hampshire, sparking speculation that he may run for president as a Democrat.

Bloomberg, a billionaire media mogul, spoke before a get-out-the-vote event in Nashua for six Democratic candidates for state representative to members of Moms Demand Action, an affiliate of Everytown Gun for Safety, a pro-gun-control organization he founded.

Bloomberg, who grew up in Medford, Massachusetts, spent many years as a Democrat before running as a Republican for mayor of New York City in 2001. He became an independent in 2007.

He served as mayor of New York from 2002 to 2014.

He announced Wednesday, October 10, 2018 that he had re-registered as a Democrat.

Bloomberg is often called a centrist. He calls himself a fiscal conservative. He is a staunch supporter of legal abortion, and he also supports same-sex marriage.

The Associated Press story about Bloomberg’s appearance in Nahua on Saturday, October 13 includes the following paragraph:

“Asked if the party he left nearly two decades ago has become increasingly liberal, he said, ‘I don’t know that it’s moved further left. I think that’s conventional wisdom by some people’.”
