Boston Celtics’ Maine Developmental Affiliate Suspends Season

March 15, 2020

For the Boston Celtics affiliate team, there will be no basketball in the near future, either.

On Thursday, March 12 the NBA G League, formerly known as the NBA D (Developmental) League, announced that in response to the NBA’s decision to suspend its season for the time being, the league would be following suit, as Celtics Wire reports.

That affects one New England pro sports team, the Maine Red Claws, who play their home games at the Portland Exposition Building. The venue seats 3,000 people and is owned by the city of Portland.

According to Celtics Wire, the Red Claws players, staff, and game attendees were not at high risk of catching coronavirus because of the two Utah Jazz players who tested positive for it.

The reason some had this concern is that Vincent Poirier was with the Boston Celtics when they played the Utah Jazz on March 6 — but he got sent back down shortly thereafter.
