Charlie Baker Is No Longer Governor of Massachusetts

January 6, 2023

Charlie Baker is no longer governor of Massachusetts.

Baker left the corner office on Beacon Hill after serving as the state’s governor for eight years. He was replaced by former Democratic attorney general Maura Healey at noon on Thursday, January 5, 2023.

Massachusetts does not have term limits for governors, but Baker chose not to run for re-election in 2022.

No governor of Massachusetts has ever served three consecutive four-year terms.

While Baker is temporarily unemployed, he already has a job lined up. He will become the president of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (known as the NCAA) in March 2023.
