Christopher Columbus Flagship Replica To Visit Newburyport

April 24, 2019

A replica of the Santa Maria, the 15th century flagship of Christopher Columbus’s voyage to America, is planning to visit Newburyport.

The 200-ton Spanish tall ship is called the Nao Santa Maria, or “New Santa Maria,” which means “Holy Mary” in Spanish.

It’s the first time the ship will be north of Florida, organizers said, according to the Gloucester Daily Times.

Tours will be available, including a re-enactor who portrays Columbus himself, according to the Gloucester Daily Times.

The ship is scheduled to be in Newburyport Harbor between Friday, May 31 and Monday, June 10.
