Connecticut Has Issued More Than 500 Gender X Driver’s Licenses

May 24, 2023

Since 2020, the Connecticut Department of Motor Vehicles has offered three gender options on driver’s licenses:  M for male, F for female, and X for nonbinary.

So how many Gender X driver’s licenses has the state issued over the past three years? As of this week, Connecticut has issued 521 Gender X driver’s licenses, according to WTNH News.

The Massachusetts Registry of Motor Vehicles also offers Gender X driver’s licenses. It began doing so in 2019. No state law requires the Registry to do it. However, the policy started under former Governor Charlie Baker, and current Governor Maura Healey has continued the practice.
