Deval Patrick Not Running for President in 2020, Politico Says

December 5, 2018

Former Massachusetts governor Deval Patrick is telling friends and allies that he won’t run for president in 2020, according to Politico.

His stint at Bain Capital undermined his potential candidacy in the Democratic primaries, the Politico story says.

That’s the same Boston investment firm that Patrick’s predecessor as governor, Mitt Romney, co-founded in 1984, and which Democrats used to bludgeon Romney with during the 2012 presidential race. (Romney, the Republican nominee that year, lost to Barack Obama.)

Patrick had been engaging in an aggressive travel and speaking schedule, apparently laying the groundwork for a presidential bid.

Patrick served as governor of Massachusetts from 2007 to 2015.

He joined Bain Capital as a managing director in 2015, and works there currently.
