Deval Patrick Outraises Opponents… In Massachusetts

February 3, 2020

Although former Massachusetts Governor Deval Patrick’s 2020 presidential campaign is a longshot, the Democrat is raising plenty of money.

Patrick raised $2.2 million over the final six weeks of 2019, including $1.1 million from Massachusetts residents, as WBUR reports. In that same timeframe, he outraised in the state Massachusetts Senator ElizabethWarren, who received just over $1 million in the final quarter of 2010. Those two were the only candidates to raise more than $1 million in the Bay State in the fourth quarter of 2019.

However, unlike other candidates, Patrick got most of his money through large donors. He had 918 contributions which averaged $1,213 per donor. Conversely, Warren had more than 18,000 donors and an average donation of $58 apiece.

Despite the donations, Patrick is polling at 2 percent in Massachusetts, according to FiveThirtyEight.

Both candidates vastly outraised both President Donald Trump and former Massachusetts Governor Bill Weld in Massachusetts in their respective Republican presidential runs. Trump raised more than $418,000 and Weld raised around $38,000.
