Drinking Problems at Dartmouth College Going Up

January 29, 2019

Drinking-related incidents at Dartmouth College increased almost 13 percent last school year, according to the school.

The number of encounters campus security and residential advisers had with students having problems with alcohol went from 388 during the 2016-2017 school year to 437 during the 2017-2018 school year, according to a study reported by The Union Leader.

The number of students found with a blood alcohol content of 0.25 (three times the legal limit for driving in New Hampshire) or more went from 30 in 2016-2017 to 37 in 2017-2018, an increase of 23 percent.

Alcohol intoxication cases requiring medical treatment stayed about the same, decreasing slightly from 185 to 183.

Dartmouth College is an Ivy League school in Hanover, New Hampshire.

“The college has been active in combating what many see as a drinking culture at the school,” The Union Leader reports.
