Framingham Mayor Yvonne Spicer Endorses Joe Kennedy III for U.S. Senate

June 23, 2020

The first black woman mayor of any Massachusetts city announced she is endorsing U.S. Representative Joseph P. Kennedy III in his Democratic primary for U.S. Senate against incumbent U.S. Senator Ed Markey.

Kennedy’s campaign posted a video to Twitter of Framingham Mayor Yvonne Spicer giving him an endorsement on Friday, June 19.

“At a moment when it has never been more clear that Black Americans need more than just allies. We need activists, we need white folks who will show up in the trenches to fight with us and for us, who won’t shy away from the hard work and hard conversations that lie ahead,” Spicer said, in part. “That’s why I’m with Joe.”

Spicer, a Democrat, is the first mayor of Framingham, which became a city on January 1, 2018.

She is left-leaning. She endorsed the proposed ROE Act abortion expansion bill and made raising the rainbow flag a priority.
