‘Gender Justice’ Activist Addresses UMass Students

October 3, 2018

Jackson Katz, a 1982 graduate of the University of Massachusetts at Amherst who says he was the first male student to minor in women’s studies, spoke about the need for men to combat sexist attitudes during a talk at the Old Chapel on the UMass campus.

A woman who lives in the town of Montague brought her 13-year-old son to try to get him interested in women’s issues, according to the Daily Collegian, the student newspaper at UMass.

Women are socialized to be small and inferior, said Christine Foley Pilsner, a graduate and employee of the school.

“How do we reprogram the women?” Pilsner said, according to the Daily Collegian.
