Geoff Diehl Among Three Possible Candidates To Be New Chairman of Massachusetts GOP

Kirsten Hughes is leaving as chairman of the Massachusetts Republican Party after a near-wipeout election earlier this month.

Recent GOP U.S. Senate candidate Geoff Diehl is considering running for the spot, as he prepares to leave the Massachusetts House of Representatives.

State Representative Peter Durant (R-Spencer) is also interested in the gig, as is the current treasurer of the party, Brent Andersen, according to State House News Service, as published by the Lowell Sun.

Diehl, a conservative, would offer a departure from the tenure of Hughes, a Quincy city councilor who has tended to favor the Governor Charlie Baker wing of the party, which tends to be liberal on social issues and moderate on fiscal matters.
