Golf Club in Central Massachusetts Operating Against Governor’s Order, Town Officials Say

May 6, 2020

A country club in Millbury, Massachusetts is operating in defiance of the governor’s order to shut down, town officials say.

Police and town officials told the Worcester Telegram & Gazette that the course owner has been served with notices of violations.

Massachusetts Governor Charlie Baker issued an executive order March 23 shutting down most businesses, including golf courses. The current executive order requiring what the state considers to be non-essential businesses to stay closed is scheduled to expire Monday, May 18. The governor has said he expects a phased reopening, without a fixed schedule.

The owner of two other golf courses in central Massachusetts has said publicly that she intends to reopen them soon, with or without the governor’s approval.
