Good Samaritans Prevent Suicide in Fall River

Passersby intervened when an unidentified person tried to commit suicide by jumping off the Braga Bridge in southeastern Massachusetts on Friday evening, according to police radio reports cited by a local newspaper.

The person was spotted a little before 7 p.m. Friday, April 12 in the westbound lane about halfway across the bridge.

“At least two civilian vehicles were seen parked in the breakdown lane of the bridge. Radio reports indicated passersby intervened during the attempted jump,” the Fall River Herald News reported. “The person was taken into custody shortly after police arrived.”

The bridge spans the Taunton River between Fall River and Somerset, about 135 feet above the water. It carries Interstate 195.
