Harvard Dorm To Re-Examine 38-Year-Old ‘Drag Night’ Tradition

September 25, 2018

A committee at one of the undergraduate dormitories at Harvard College is considering whether to continue running “Drag Night.”

Adams House, which includes sophomores, juniors, and seniors, has been running the yearly event since 1980, when a student reported being attacked by other students because he was a homosexual, according to The Harvard Crimson.

But two seniors who serve as co-chairmen of the house committee have sent an email message asking whether the event “has outgrown its original purpose” and needs to be “re-examined,” according to The Harvard Crimson. The story doesn’t explain why the two seniors are concerned about the event.

The story quotes a 2015 graduate praising the event:

“On a House-Wide level, there is nothing like it at anywhere else at Harvard. Beyond its appeal to our desire for entertainment, Drag Night symbolizes so much of who we have been in the past, who we are today, and what we hope for in the future of our community.”
