How To Create An Artificial Ice Storm, and Why

Researchers sprayed water onto trees in New Hampshire when the air temperature was below freezing to re-create the effects of an ice storm, in order to study the effects ice has on vegetation. They’re expecting more ice storms because of climate change; turns out there are some bad effects (such as falling limbs) and some good ones (such as clearing out certain sprouts so existing trees have more room to grow).
