John Deaton Wins Masssachusets GOP U.S. Senate Primary In A Landslide
September 4, 2024
Attorney John Deaton of Swansea cruised to victory in the Massachusetts Republican primary for U.S. Senate on Tuesday.
Deaton had 64.6 percent of the vote with 92 percent of the vote counted, according to the Associated Press. This gave him a substantial lead over Robert Antonellis of Somerville (26.2 percent) and Quincy City Council president Ian Cain.
This result means Deaton will face U.S. Senator Elizabeth Warren (D-Cambridge) this November.
“I am truly humbled by the tremendous outpouring of support and grateful for the faith the voters have placed in me,” Deaton said in a press release Tuesday night. “Tomorrow, we begin the next phase of the campaign – an effort that will hold Elizabeth Warren accountable for her failures on the border, the unaffordable cost of supporting a family, a broken healthcare system, abandoning our ally Israel, and restoring faith in our politics. Voters are turning their back on divisive partisan politics and are ready to support a message of optimism, unity, and solving problems.”
The Massachusetts Republican Party congratulated Deaton on the win.
“A special congratulations to John Deaton for securing the Republican nomination to challenge Elizabeth Warren this November!” the MassGOP wrote in a press release. “Senator Warren has built a career on dividing people and inciting class conflict, all while voting for policies that have fueled inflation and weakened our nation. We look forward to seeing Deaton hold her accountable and reveal to Massachusetts residents who Elizabeth Warren truly is.”
Warren is the strong favorite to win the November election.
