Massachusetts High School Football Season Starts Today

February 22, 2021

Sure, we are in the middle of the winter, but that means high school football season starts today in Massachusetts.

There was no Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association football in the fall due to the coronavirus emergency. Instead, school sports officials decided to create a season called Fall II, which is scheduled to go from February 22 to April 25. Sports in the Fall II season include football, cheerleading, indoor track, and unified basketball. Football games will likely start in early March.

“We made adjustments in the fall and had a successful first season. We made additional modifications for the winter and our student athletes have been actively engaged since December. Now we are hopeful that with the guidance from the Governor’s office and of [the Executive Office of Energy and Environmental Affairs], along with the work of our various committees, that we will be able to have a safe and successful Fall II Season,” Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association president Jeffrey Granatino told NBC Boston last month.
