Massachusetts Minimum Wage Now $15 An Hour

January 2, 2023

The current minimum wage in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts is now $15 an hour.

The minimum wage increased at the start of the new year — on Sunday, January 1, 2023. It increased from $14.25 an hour to $15 an hour.

Governor Charlie Baker signed the minimum wage increase and paid family leave into law back in June 2018 as part of the so-called Grand Bargain. In exchange, Baker got a permanent sales tax holiday weekend in August.

Unlike the Massachusetts minimum wage, the federal minimum wage remains unchanged, as it has for the past 14 years. It has been at $7.25 an hour since 2009, but the federal level does not apply in Massachusetts.
