Maura Healey Endorses Pro-Life Mayor
September 21, 2023
Believe it or not, Massachusetts Governor Maura Healey endorsed a pro-life candidate this week.
The Democrat endorsed Quincy Mayor Tom Koch in his re-election bid.
Koch is an independent who left the Democratic Party over its views on abortion in 2018 and said at a June 2021 event that he would “rather lose … than be pro-choice.” Healey’s endorsement was announced in the Politico Massachusetts Playbook; Lieutenant Governor Kim Driscoll is also backing Koch, according to the newsletter.
Koch was first elected as Quincy’s mayor in 2007. This year, he is running against Quincy school committee member Anne Mahoney, who is running to his left.
Koch endorsed Healey in the 2022 gubernatorial election after supporting Charlie Baker in 2014 and 2018.
