Maura Healey Open To Another Minimum Wage Increase

January 4, 2023

Should Massachusetts boost its minimum wage above $15 an hour?

Massachusetts Governor-elect Maura Healey is open to the possibility of including some form of a cost-of-living adjustment to the minimum wage, her campaign spokesman Karissa Hand told GBH News.

“Governor-elect Healey is a strong supporter of paying workers a fair wage and believes the state minimum wage should be adjusted over time to keep up with the cost of living,” Hand told GBH News last week. “She will review any legislation that reaches her desk.”

Proponents of minimum wage increases argue that they boost workers’ wages, improve their standards of living, and reduce government spending on welfare programs. Opponents argue that raising the minimum wage results in job loss and more expenses on business owners.
