March 25, 2020

Former Massachusetts Governor Michael Dukakis has been hospitalized with pneumonia.

Dukakis, who was the Democratic Party’s presidential nominee in 1988, is hospitalized in Los Angeles near the UCLA campus, according to The Boston Globe. Dukakis served as a visiting professor at the Luskin School of Public Affair there in the winter semester.

Dukakis, 86, was tested twice for coronavirus while in the hospital and both tests have come back negative, indicating he does not have the virus.

Dukakis went to the hospital after suffering from respiratory symptoms, his son John told The Boston Globe.

Dukakis, who still spends part of the year in his native Brookline, also serves as a political science professor at Northeastern University.

Dukakis served as governor of Massachusetts from 1975 to 1979 and from 1983 to 1991.
