Mitt Romney Thinks Russia Might Nuke Ukraine

May 25, 2022

Could Russia nuke Ukraine?

No country has nuked another country since 1945, but former Massachusetts governor and current U.S. Senator Mitt Romney (R-Utah) says that it’s possible.

Romney says that it’s a possibility that North Atlantic Treaty Organization countries should prepare for, even if it’s unlikely.

“Russia’s use of a nuclear weapon would unarguably be a redefining, reorienting geopolitical event,” Romney said, according to the New York Post. “We should imagine the unimaginable, specifically how we would respond militarily and economically to such a seismic shift in the global geopolitical terrain.”

Romney was first elected to the U.S. Senate in 2018; it’s unclear if he’ll seek re-election in 2024.
