Most Bay Staters Support A Millionaire’s Tax

September 16, 2022

A majority of Massachusetts residents want to raise taxes on the state’s wealthiest residents, according to a new poll.

Fifty-six percent of Bay Staters say they plan to vote Yes on the so-called Fair Share Amendment, according to a newly released poll from The Boston Globe. It would implement a 4 percent surtax on income earned exceeding $1 million per year, meaning that the money would first be subject to the 5 percent state income tax.

Thirty-five percent of respondents said they plan to vote against the measure. Eight percent say they’re undecided on the measure.

The state currently has a flat 5 percent income tax.
