Mother of Boy Sues School District Over Parking-Lot Encounter Suspension

August 15, 2019

The mother of a boy who engaged in a sexual encounter in the parking lot of a public high school is suing the school district for suspending her son.

The girl involved told school officials she was sexually assaulted after telling the boy to stop. The boy said the encounter was consensual. The district attorney’s office declined to prosecute, saying it would be difficult to get a conviction in the case given the evidence, according to the Bangor Daily News.

School officials suspended the boy for eight days.

The defendant in the lawsuit is Five Town Community School District. The incident took place May 15 in the parking lot of Camden Hills Regional High School in Rockport, Maine, about 69 miles northeast of Portland on the coast.

The news story does not mention the names of the boy or his mother, or what court the suit was filed in.
