New Freedom Trail Tour, ‘Rainbow Revolutionaries,’ Coming To Boston This June

May 28, 2024

The Freedom Trail Foundation, which takes visitors to Boston through the Freedom Trail — a walking trail of 17 sites significant to the American Revolution — is launching a new tour this June called “Rainbow Revolutionaries.”

The tour is meant to highlight the achievements of homosexuals and transgender people.

“The Foundation’s Rainbow Revolutionaries Tours illuminate the lives, loves, and fights for liberty of Boston’s LGBTQ+ community, and explore how queer individuals have been making history for centuries,” the description page says.

The roughly 90-minute tour promises to “uncover” social advances of the movement and the various Boston figures who advanced it, including what the group says is a Revolutionary War figure who was homosexual or gender-nonconforming, which is possibly a reference to Baron Friedrich von Steuben.

“Rainbow Revolutionaries” is scheduled to begin on Saturdays and Sundays this June and visit four sites:  Boston Common, Massachusetts State House, Park Street Church, and Old Corner Book Store.
