New Hampshire Senate Rejects Marijuana Legalization

May 13, 2023

Marijuana won’t be legal in New Hampshire any time soon.

The New Hampshire Senate voted 14-10 earlier this week to kill a bill (HB 639) that would legalize recreational marijuana in the state. All but one Republican voted against legalization, while all but one Democrat voted for it.

“No amount of revenue we could earn here in the state of New Hampshire, based on an illegal drug, is worth it,” New Hamshire state Senator Carrie Gendreau (R-Littleton) told WMUR.

The bill passed 272-109 in the New Hampshire House of Representatives on April 6; it received bipartisan support in that chamber.
