Northampton Cancels Veterans Day Parade — Lack of Interest

The western Massachusetts city of Northampton has cancelled its annual Veterans Day parade because not enough veterans are available to march and not enough people go to watch it.

Older veterans, such as those who served in the Korean war, have gotten too infirm to march, which younger veterans for the most part aren’t interested in marching, organizers say.

In addition, attendance in recent years has dropped dramatically, according to WBZ-TV Channel 4.

Northampton, a city of about 28,000 people in Hampshire County, is the home of Smith College.
